Die Patrone .375 Holland & Holland Magnum ist, obwohl sie in die Jahre gekommen ist, wegen ihrer fast universellen Verwendbarkeit, ihrer ruhmreichen Geschichte und ihrer Anhänger in den USA und Europa (und den nach wie vor produzierten Jagdwaffen für dieses Kaliber) nach wie vor eine der bekanntesten und wichtigsten Patronen der Welt.
Van der Walt stellt in dem neuen Buch "African Dangerous Game Cartridges" ehrlich fest: "Although most of us, including myself, would hate to admit it, the .375 H & H Magnum case has technically become outdated. With a distinct body taper and a fairly long and thin case, it theoretically and practically does not have as efficient a propellant combustion chanmber as the fatter, less tapered more compact cases which currently are all the rage".
Wie auch immer die Möglichkeiten moderner Patronen sind, Kevin Robertson ("Africa's Most Dangerous") stellt zur umfassenden Verwendung der .375 H & H fest: "When used sensibly, this is an absolute adequate ballistic combination, and today more buffalo are probably shot with the .375 H&H than with all other big-game calibres put together. However, this does not necessarily mean that it is the best calibre for buffalo. ... However, the .375 H&H has been described by a number of authors and knowledgeable gunwriters as a marginal calibre for buffalo". Robertson stellt weiter fest, dass die Patrone zwar ausreichende Penetrationswirkung hat, aber "it definitely lacks hitting power". Er beschreibt, wie häufig zu hoch beschossene Büffel abgehen ohne zu zeichnen, wenn der Schütze diese Patrone verwendete und den Gegensatz dazu beim Einsatz der .400er Munition.
